About ENVIS-NIOH

Environmental Information System [ENVIS] Centre, housed at National Institute of Occupational Health [NIOH], is sponsored by Department of Environment, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, New Delhi. This centre is working since 1984.

In the current era of urbanization and industrialization the workforce of the country is expected to increase in the diversified occupations. These occupations while one hand provide livelihood to the worker on the other hand are potential sources to diversified factors which may prove deleterious to the health of the workers. Thus there ought to be awareness and motivation in the workers to work safely at their workplaces. The ENVIS centre at NIOH is engaged in collection, collation, storage, retrieval and dissemination of Indian information related to occupational and environmental health. This information is then translated to create awareness about occupational health and safety through awareness programmes and improve working conditions through recommendations to decision makers.

ENVIS NIOH is involved in publication of NEWSLETTERS on current issues related to occupational and environmental health, BIBLIOGRAPHIES on the important occupational diseases as a consolidated source of reference for budding and established researchers, monthly NIOHNEWS bulletin to keep the citizen of the country updated with respect to occupational and environmental health.
